About me...

Hi! My name’s Rockwell – but yes, Rocky is fine for short. – I’m a science communicator with a decade’s experience working in science centres, planetariums, universities and research centres.

In past lives, I’ve authored articles, produced podcasts, scripted science shows, published papers, and crafted cardboard cubesats. I’ve also picked up a masters in science communication, and spent many, many daytimes pretending it was nighttime in planetariums along the way.

Right now, I hang out behind the scenes at ICRAR, the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, help shareI’m excited about highlighting the people and collaborations at ICRAR through short-form video, and on finding ways to enhance and scale ICRAR’s face-to-face outreach through digital experiences.

Before ICRAR, I worked with Curtin University’s Binar Space Program, covering the deployment and re-entry of Western Australia’s first spacecraft, and designing and delivering the BinarX program, which saw high school students designing experiments to fly on future spacecraft.

I’ve also worked for Scitech, WA’s science centre and outreach program, developing and presenting content for the largest planetarium in the southern hemisphere. I helped launch the Planetarium’s long-running podcast, The Audio Guide to the Galaxy, and produced stories, podcasts, videos and live science shows for Scitech and their digital magazine Particle.

I have a Masters in Science Communication, from which I’ve published research on narratives around plants in space, and a Bachelor’s in Communication Studies and Linguistics, both from the University of Western Australia.
