Dr David Gozzard, from ICRAR’s UWA node, has been recognised as WA’s Early Career Researcher of the Year in the 2023 Premier’s Science Awards.
Dr Gozzard is an experimental physicist developing laser measurement and communication technology for spacecraft.
His research has the potential to make WA a world-leader in satellite communications.
“It’s great to see David continuing the success of ICRAR staff and students at this high-profile annual event,” said ICRAR Interim Executive Director Lister Staveley-Smith.
Dr Gozzard said being nominated for the award was a huge honour.
“It’s a recognition not only of the work that I’ve done, but also my colleagues and the students I work with,” Dr Gozzard said on his nomination.
“I work with a great bunch of people – really bright students, fantastic colleagues, and this is a recognition of that cumulative work, all the work we’ve done together.”
